Updated | Chris Said sole contender for PN secretary-general role
Lawyer Ann Fenech submits nomination for president of the executive; only two out of six roles on the party’s administrative council are being contested.
Former justice minister Chris Said is the sole contender for the post of secretary general of the Nationalist Party after whip David Agius and Lija mayor Ian Castaldi Paris decided not to throw their hat in the ring.
Outgoing secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier is not seeking reelection.
Next Wednesday, the Nationalist Party will elect the new administration. The only two roles that are being contested are that of treasurer and international secretary.
Nominations closed at noon and the following submissions were made: Chris Said for secretary general; Jean Pierre Debono for assistant secretary general; Ann Fenech for president of the executive council; Karol Aquilina for president of the administrative council; Trevor de Giorgio and Victor Scerri for international secretary; and Alex Perici Calascione and Hermann Schiavone for treasurer.

Nationalist MP and Opposition whip David Agius will not be running for the post of secretary general, MaltaToday can reveal.
Nominations for the post close today at noon. So far, the only person to have thrown his hat into the ring is MP Chris Said, for long touted to be the best to fit the role.
Agius, who was unofficially being mentioned as interested for the post, confirmed to MaltaToday that he was not going to contest.
"I will continue to be the whip of the parliamentary group. As an MP, I am shadowing local councils and that means I have to prepare for the local councils elections in two years' time," Agius said.
As the whip of the Nationalist parliamentary group, Agius forms part of both the executive and administrative councils. He says that this, together with particular assignments the leader of the Nationalist Party is expected to assign him to, is already "quite plentiful".
Outgoing PN secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier will not seek re-election. Unless no other nomination is submitted by noon, Chris Said is the only contestant.
