Transforma apologise for advert, say public 'misinterpreted' message

Transforma have issued an official apology following a negative reaction to an advert published in yesterday’s media.

Transforma Cosmetic Clinic issued an official apology this afternoon following public outcry over an advert published in yesterday's media.

The advert, which featured a plus-size woman as Eve and a man in the background as Adam asking for help, and which stated 'Nobody is born perfect... but we'll help you get there', led to numerous comments being made on social media networks amid concerns that the advert was not conducive to a healthy self image.

In their statement, Transforma extended their apologies to clients and the public "for any offence or distress caused following the publication of the advert."

They said the advert was never intended to target eating, weight, body image, or to insinuate that "being skinny equals perfection".

Transforma said: "The way the advert was interpreted and viewed by many was not what the company wished to portray and put across at any time and the feedback received runs counter to Transforma's values as a company and its standards of professionalism."

It said, "The Company's decision of going against the traditional slim and perfect figure (both for the male & female models) was due to the Adam and Eve concept and was intended to welcome and offer the Company's services to both males and females whatever their size, cosmetic or beauty needs may be."

This kind of advertising destroys all efforts by womens' organizations to promote a healthy self esteem in females. Bulimnia is one by symptom of low self esteem brought about by negative images in the media about weight.

the world perfect is a bit strong, but the truth hurts and if one decides to stay fat he should not be offended cause it is his choice. not everyone can be super fit but everyone can control his weight . Just cause you accept being fat dosent make it good or healthy its your choice i dont see what the fuss is about

Transforms Public apology is welcomed. However, company's should always be sensible about how to portray the sensitive issue of weight loss. While having a healthy physic is desirable, publicity campaigns should address women to embraces themselves. The Dove Campaign is an excelled example of how this is achieved. This advert is an embarrassment for the company and an offence to women in general.
