Diver in distress rescued off Xwejni

A diver was rescued after finding himself in distress today, July 31, 2013, at about 12.30 p.m., in Ras ir-Reqqa, Xwejni, limits of Żebbuġ, Gozo.

Preliminary investigations found that the diver, 66, of Żebbuġ, Gozo, was overcome by a wave which pulled him into a cave, where he struck his head, and pulled off his goggles and flippers.

He was assisted by another man who was diving with him.

The diver was brought ashore by members of the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces of Malta and taken to Gozo General Hospital, where, however, he refused medical assistance.
