PN opposing Sports School relocation
The Sports School will be transferred from Kirkop to a school in Pembroke.
The Opposition has voiced its disapproval on the government’s decision to relocate the national Sports School, from the Kirkop Sports Complex to a “less-equipped school in Pembroke.”
The Nationalist Party said the government was disregarding the capital invested by the past Nationalist administration to have a new sports complex with state of the art facilities in Kirkop.
“While welcoming the government’s decision to increase the autonomy of this school, the decision to remove the school from its original location is not ideal. It will hinder the students’ development in certain sectors, such as football, basketball, gymnastics, karate and rugby,” the PN underlined in a statement.
The opposition appealed to the government to reverse its decision and carry out a consultation process with all the stakeholders involved.
The school of sport was inaugurated in September 2012, aiming to provide advanced training to students that distinguish themselves in sports. The school caters for both academic and technical aspects.
