Hunters' federation 'welcomes' return of confiscated items by police

The Federation for Hunting & Conservation (FKNK) has welcomed what it described as “common sense” that has prevailed, whereby the police have returned all confiscated items to hunters who were suspected to be in breach of hunting regulations.

In a statement, FKNK Secretary General Lino Farrugia said that following two intense days since the opening of this year’s spring hunting season that brought with it several new procedures and requirements, police officers confiscated around 25 shotguns, several cartridges, armbands, special licences and carnet de chasse booklets, for offences that under normal circumstances are regarded as minor, such as the hunter’s omission to carry his special licence whilst hunting.

Farrugia said that “common sense has prevailed” and the confiscated items have been returned to their owners with a written warning from the police.

FKNK he said, “welcomes this police action and also appreciates the decision of the Commissioner of Police and any intervention by the Prime Minister as Minister responsible for hunting issues who was also advised of the occurrences.”

The federation also stressed its reminder to special licence holders to ensure to always carry their special licence, armband adequately worn and carnet de chasse whilst hunting.
