'In need of more social workers' - Foster Care Association

The National Foster Care Association of Malta (NFCAM) says that each social worker is currently responsible for an average 30 cases.

In an interview by sister newspaper Illum, Jason Zerafa, president of the NFCAM, said the association has started to work on a project which will see parents fostering babies granted maternity or parental leave.

“To avoid babies from ending up in orphanages, we are trying to encourage more families to foster babies. We have started working with a number of unions to encourage foster leave, just like a natural parent is granted parental leave,” Zerafa told Illum.
