Voting guidelines for hospital inpatients

In accordance with a change in the law, the Electoral Commission has made arrangements for inpatients to vote in the upcoming MEP elections.
Those who have been admitted as inpatients before 6pm on Monday, 19 May 2014 to Mater Dei Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital Karen Grech and Gozo General Hospital will vote within the hospitals themselves. Voting will take place on Thursday 22 May 2014 between 7am and 10pm.
Inpatients admitted to Mater Dei Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital Karen Grech, Gozo General Hospital and Boffa Hospital after this date will vote in the locality stated on their voting document on Saturday 24 May 2014. Patients will require a doctor's permission to leave the hospital and to determine what means of transport would be suitable.
Patients may avail themselves of transportation to and from polling stations offerd by the Department of Health or they may use private transportation if accompanied by an authorized person.
Written permission from the hospital administrator will be required for a patient to leave the hospital and for the accompanying person to enter the hospital. Patients should be picked up between 1pm and 5pm to avoid long waiting times.
On voting day, services at hospitals, outpatient clinics, health centres and pharmacies will continue as usual.
