Dismissed director was given compensation, says government
Charmaine Attard was formerly Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Mater Dei.

The government has said that Charmaine Attard, a former Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Mater Dei, was given compensation as a result of her dismissal. Attard was sacked from her post more than a year ago with the PN yesterday issuing a statement claiming that no compensation had yet been given.
The party’s spokesperson for health, Claudio Grech, had said that the sector “should not be politicised” whilst the office of the Ombudsman put further weight behind the argument stating that Attard was unfairly dismissed, and claimed that her contract conditions had been breached.
However, in a statement issued by government this afternoon, it said that Attard was in fact given compensation for her dismissal.
“With reference to the statement issued by the Nationalist Party, in which it outlined recommendations made by the Ombudsman in the case of Charmaine Attard, the government wishes to make clear that, in contrast to what the PN said, it had adhered to such recommendations and Ms Attard was given her due compensation.”
Whilst Attard was given the job after a public call, her replacement was appointed on a position of trust.
