In the Press: Parliament building expected to be finished by end of February

Former lawyer Patrick Spiteri, who is wanted for fraud and has a European arrest warrent issued against him, made bail yesterday against a deposit of about €90,000. He is accused of defrauding several people of an estimated €10 million.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil has called on the government to return property taken from private citizens to be turned into Labour party clubs. Busuttil said he was prepared to take the issue to the Constitutional Court.

Finance minister Edward Scicluna announced the introduction of two retirement savings schemes in an effort to encourage people to save for their retirement years.

The new parliament building is expected to be operational by the end of February, although an exact date has not been established yet. An official statement will be made once a timeframe has been decided.
