In response to President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca's Republic Day speech, in which she said that the Catholic Church no longer played a central role in Maltese culture, Apostolic Administrator Charles Scicluna said that the speech was a statement of fact. However, he said, the Church would remain an active player in society.

Two individuals have come forward with information about the Boxing Day incident at a gentlemen's club involving a police sergeant. The two witnesses said they saw sergeant Ramon Mifsud Grech and other officers beat and threaten a man who snapped a picture of Mifsud Grech drinking while on duty.

A bomb threat that caused chaos in the Cirkewwa and Mgarr ports, leaving hundreds stuck for hours, came from a telephone box in San Gwann. CCTV cameras show a woman making the phone call but other than what she was wearing - trousers, a jacket and a hat - there is no further information.

The former Flower Power garden centre site has become a dumping ground for construction and household waste, as well as unwanted white goods. Since the establishment was abandoned in 2010, the premises have also been set ablaze several times.
