Grim photographs taken on the Libyan coastline show the extent of the human tragedy currently unfolding in the Mediterranean. Authorities are removing the corpses of migrants, including the very young, who died at sea, after their bodies wash up on shore. Almost 10,000 migrants have been rescued by Italian forces since last Friday.

A hunter who shot a protected cuckoo in Manikata yesterday was handed down a €2,500 fine, had his shotgun confiscated and his license suspended for three years. The incident took place two days into the spring hunting season and was filmed by Birdlife monitors.

A drug law has come into force whereby the personal use of narcotics does not automatically translate to prison time. Minister Owen Bonnici said that real victims of drug dependency should receive help while those trafficking it will receive harsh penalties.
