MUT orders industrial action over ‘freezing’ of LSAII, KA I grades

The Malta Union of Teachers’ (MUT) has registered in industrial dispute with the Government over the capacity-building exercise which was affecting the engagement of kindergarten assistants II and Learning Support Assistants I.

The MUT declared this trade dispute after the Teachers’ Union learnt that more than 60% of those who had passed from the interview for KGII “are not going to get the grade”.

Moreover, MUT revealed in a statement issued this afternoon that the applications for LSA II “are being kept in a freezer”.

The Union lamented that all this meant that there were employees who would be doing the same work – the fruit of sacrifice and personal commitment – “that will not receive the grade that they deserved”.

The MUT has officially written to the Principal Permanent Secretary (PPS) to express its concern, “but these not been any solution yet.”

The Teachers Union (MUT) pointed its finger at the Directorate for Public Administration at the OPM, which was also “obstructing the education authorities.

“The MUT is strongly protesting against this injustice where employees that are doing the same work and have the same qualifications end up with different salaries”, it concluded its telegraphic statement.
