In the Press: Inquiry reveals fraudulent certification tests for Mater Dei concrete

A board of inquiry has determined that Swedish company Skanska had provided fraudulent certification test results, which led to poor quality concrete being used in the Mater Dei hospital building. While no single individual had been identified, the board strongly urged authorities to investigate further.

Sources tell this newspaper that the Water Services Corporation has become what they described as a 'branch of the Labour party', with appointments made without a public call, unwarranted promotions and individuals being appointed to top jobs, under the guise of filling a 'position of trust'.

UHM activists have allegedly approached freeport workers and informed them that, should they require the union's help in future, they would need to provide photographic evidence of their ballot in the upcoming vote on who should represent Malta Freeport Terminal workers.

Some €360 million, linked to the owners of an Italian shipping company, are believed to be held in Bank of Valletta accounts. The company, Deiulemar, was deemed to have been a case of fraudulent bankruptcy by a Roman court, leading to seven of the company's owners being jailed last July.
