Outgoing EESC President in Malta for two-day visit

Outgoing EESC President Mario Sepi in Malta for a two-day visit at the end of his mandate as EESC President.

During his lightining visit to Malta, Sepi met the MCESD members, as well as the members’ of the Council’s Civil Society Committee and Gozo Regional Committee respectively.

Sepi gave an overview of the work he has carried out during his mandate. He was quoted as saying that he gave “particular praise” to the MCESD “for its valid contribution during his presidency”. 

Sepi highlighted MCESD Chairman Sonny Portelli’s “specific input” in drawing up the proposals of the European National Councils’ position on the Lisbon Strategy, now the EU2020.

Malta was the first EU Member State he had visited at the beginning of his mandate and he decided that it would also be the last Member State he visited at the end of his mandate.. 

Sepi was also in Malta to launch the book “La Nuova Favola Della Fattoria”, which he co-wrote with EESC Vice-President Designate Anna Maria Darmanin

This book, intended as the sequel to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, depicts the animal life in a capitalist society faced by the economic, social and environmental crisis.  Furthermore it highlights the role the citizens have in ensuring that policy and politics are truly related to the needs of society in general.
