In the newly revised code of ethics, Cabinet members can be allowed to continue their private work if it serves 'national interest'. The code also exempts members from declaring their spouses' and underage children's assets and removes the specific time frame for the submission of assets set out by the previous code of ethics.

A European drug report revealed that Malta had the second highest use of high-risk opioid, namely heroin, in the EU, second only to the United Kingdom. 1,078 people are receiving rehabilitation from heroin use in Malta. Three drug-related deaths were recorded over the past 12 months.
