In the Press: Former Labour treasurer Joe Sammut charged with fraud, misappropriation

Former Labour party treasurer Joe Sammut faced charges of fraud and money laundering yesterday. Sammut was charged with 11 offences in all, related to a scam he was running whereby he registered false companies in Malta to ease the residency process for Libyans.

70% of libel suits filed in 2014, 36 in total, were filed by MPs, unelected politicians and political functionaries. Justice minister Owen Bonnici said he was reviewing the laws detailing under which circumstances libel could be considered criminal.
