Online poll | Absolute majority mistrust Malta’s Police force

72% to an online poll by MaltaToday.com.mt agree that the Malta Police Force needs a radical shakeup

72% of 2,205 respondents who took part in an online poll by MaltaToday.com.mt all agree that the Malta Police Force needs a radical shakeup.

The 1,586 respondents by far outnumbered the 550 respondents who stated that they trusted the cops but agreed that the police force needed to work hard to inspire more trust.

69 of the respondents (3.13%) said they were not sure whether the force could be trusted or not.

Over the years, the police force has been embroiled in far too many controversies with the most recent being the unethical behaviour of the Zammit family of police officers who had business interests with the family of property entrepreneur Joseph Gaffarena. One of the officers, Daniel Zammit, acted as prosecuting officer on murder charges against Gaffarena’s son-in-law.

An internal police inquiry is now underway.
