Customs seizes over €13,000 in cash from Kiev-bound traveller

Customs officials stationed at the airport this morning seized €13,650 from a Maltese man travelling to Kiev via Istanbul.

According to the Customs Department, the man claimed the cash was “traveling money.”

European law stipulates that passengers traveling with more than €10,000 in cash to or from any EU country are obliged to submit a declaration to Customs.

The economic crimes unit was informed and the man was allowed to travel and will be taken to court upon his return, the Customs Department said.
