72% of pre-primary education pupils enrolled in state schools
9,269 children attend pre-primary education whilst 4,037 toddlers were enrolled in formal childcare
Paid childcare was mainly concentrated in centres located in the Northern Harbour district
Over 63% of free childcare was provided through centres located in the Northern Harbour and Southern Harbour districts, data by the National Statistics Office has shown.
The NSO also said that paid childcare was mainly concentrated in centres located in the Northern Harbour district.
The peak drop-off and pick-up time brackets were between 08:00 to 09:00 and 13:00 to 14:00 hours, respectively. Highest incidence was observed in the average duration of 6 and 5 hours, at 21 and 19 per cent, respectively.
On the other hand, the share of pre-primary children enrolled in state schools amounted to 72% whilst children enrolled in independent schools amounted to 17%, respectively.
The remaining attended Church schools.
The most popular age in state schools was that of 3 years, whereas in the case of independent and church schools, the majority were four years of age.
Most children attending state schools resided in the same locality of the school; the contrary prevailed in the case of church and independent schools.
