Malta battered by wind and sea

Gale force winds, cold temeperatures and occasional rainfall have marked the start of winter in Malta.

The wind uprooted two large trees in Valley Road, Msida on Thursday morning, causing damage to some vehicles but no injuries.

Along the coast, some boats were damaged with wood seen drifting inside Pieta Creek.

According to Malta International Airport's Meteorological Office the Force 8, northeasterly wind is expected to calm down over the next 24 hours but the temperature will continue to drop. On Friday night the Met Office is forecasting a low of 7 degrees Celsius.

MaltaToday videographer James Bianchi captured the restless sea inside the more sheltered parts of Marsamxett harbour.
