Notorious Mafia boss captured in bunker

Italian police have arrested notorious Camorra boss, Michele Zagaria, who has been on the run for 16 years.

Michele Zagaria was found by police hiding in a secret bunker in his home town of Casapesenna near Naples. Zagaria was thought to be the most senior figure in the Camorra who was still on the run.

Zagaria, sentenced to multiple life sentences in absentia was the leader of the dominant Casalesi clan. The Casalesi clan is involved in various illegal activities mainly drug trafficking, arm trafficking, waste trafficking and corruption in the construction industry.

After being arrested the mafia boss apparently told investigators "The state has won".

The Casalesi clan is one of a number of groups within the Camorra criminal network, which dominates the underworld in the Naples area.
