BYD DOLPHIN voted by AUTOBEST as ‘Best Buy Car of Europe 2024’

The 31 journalists on the AUTOBEST jury from 31 European countries have voted for BYD DOLPHIN as a strong winner. With a total of 20.057 points, BYD DOLPHIN came in first place beating out three other finalists.

It is the first time that the AUTOBEST jury voted for BYD as AUTOBEST ‘‘Best Buy Car of Europe 2024’’. According to its president Dan Vardie, BYD DOLPHIN simply offered the best. “It was one of the most balanced AUTOBEST competitions in a decade, but BYD Dolphin, an EV-only model, won the well-deserved title”, Vardie said.

Unbeatable in price/quality

The jurors chose the DOLPHIN not only for its comfort, quality and great driving experience but also for the very spacious interior within the compact dimensions of the car. Accessible pricing, combined with a high level of warranty, low costs per kilometre, high level of standard features and state-of-the-art technology features also caught the attention of the jury. 

The AUTOBEST jury was clear and concluded: “The BYD DOLPHIN is unbeatable when it comes to price/quality/range” the report says. Moreover, the jurors praised the compact dimensions of the DOLPHIN, combined with the wealth of interior space for its passengers and great dynamic driving experience and are well-balanced technology based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0.

Compact but spacious and very safe 

BYD DOLPHIN, awarded by safety organisation Euro NCAP with a maximum of 5 stars, is a compact but spacious hatchback that combines modern aesthetics with exceptional intelligence and efficiency derived from pioneering electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity. Measuring 4,290mm in length and 2,012mm wide (with wing mirrors unfolded), the BYD DOLPHIN enjoys a 2,700mm wheelbase, optimised for space and comfort thanks to the e-platform 3.0 and short front and rear overhangs. DOLPHIN offers seating for 5 occupants and good storage in the 345-litre boot, which can be expanded to a surprising 1310-litre when seats are folded flat. The vehicle offers a highly efficient 60.4 kWh BYD Blade Battery with a 427km range (WLTP combined).

Ground-breaking Blade Battery

BYD DOLPHIN also benefits from the ground-breaking, in-house developed, BYD Blade Battery which is revolutionising safety, durability and performance in the EV industry. The cobalt, managed and nickel-free Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP), which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Furthermore, the Blade Battery offers more stability, safety and durability, delivering high power density with the benefit of ultra-low energy consumption.

The BYD DOLPHIN was launched in Malta last week and is available for test drives and viewings at the GasanZammit premises in Mriehel. The official AUTOBEST “Best Buy Car of Europe 2024 award” will be handed out officially during the 23rd AUTOBEST gala that will take place in Luxembourg later this year.
