The Strait Street Burlesque Show Vaudeville Circus by The Dazzle Troupe promises street theatre at its best. The show will take place along Strait Street between St John and St Lucy Street and between St Lucy and Old Theatre Street and will be held from 19:00 till 02:30
If a comical affair is what you are after, stroll along Strait Street and check out a performance that is daringly different and like no other. If quick-wittiness and a show packed with puns and mockery is your idea of a laugh-out-loud and vivacious event, then this performance is certainly not to be missed!
Having flourished in Europe and the US in the early 1880s, Burlesque shows portray a variety of entertainment consisting of a number of unrelated acts, all following a specific theme. Inspired by traditional Burlesque performances, this show seeks out talented Maltese artists – including musicians, dancers, comedians, magicians, impersonators, circus tricks, illustrated songs and one-act plays. Even short film producers that produce their own imaginative creations are part of the show. All artists collaborate with other artists to produce one complete show.
Each performance is split into ten minute intervals in which each artist must follow a specific theme and creatively present a dazzling routine. “The aim of such a show is to encourage talented local individuals to stretch their imaginations and provide the opportunity for artists to produce their own mini-show, without it being too demanding for them,” explains director Nicole Cushcieri. “Feedback from both audiences and artists has been exceptional and the concept has become rather popular; it will surely be tremendous fun for everyone involved,” she concludes.
Artists on the night include Alex Vella Gregory, Joseph Zammit, Veronica Stivala, Chris Galea, Lizzie Eldridge, Teo Reljic, Bettina Borg Cardona, Pete Farrugia, Maria Pia Meli, Joanne Vella, Philip Leone Ganado, Marie Claire Pellegrini, Catch a Fire Malta and Malcolm Cauchi. Makeup is by Emma Beard, Sound by Aldo Cauchi Savona, Zak Mintoff and Chris Galea. Directed by Nicole Cuschieri.
