Trevor Noah’s Daily Show: Pete Buttigieg is killing it in the polls

Maltese-American presidential aspirant Pete Buttigieg is stealing US airwaves with his bid for the Democratic nomination for president.

Noah Trevor gushed about Buttigieg’s knowledge of various languages, military record and time spent as mayor of Indiana town South Bend… compared to incumbent president Donald Trump.

Buttigieg, 37, is the son of the late Prof. Joseph A. Buttigieg, a Maltese lecturer at the University of Notre Dame.

Buttigieg, a Navy veteran and Rhodes scholar, is considered to the dark horse of the Democratic race, but voters' struggle with pronouncing his name is also propelling him to greater attention.

CNN and other newspapers such as the Washington Post have already mapped out the various possibilities for Americans to pronounce his surname: buddha-judge, boot-a-judge, boo-tug-judge... although both Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg have set out a few possibilties:

Buttigieg, with its –tigieg portion of the last name meaning ‘poultry’, is one of various Maltese surnames of Semitic origin that were already well established by the late middle ages. It happens to be one of the most common surnames in Gozo, especially dominant in the small village of Qala.
