No one was injured when fire engulfed a small speedboat this morning at Balluta Bay.

According to witness Toby Ross, one of the MaltaToday readers who sent in the pictures, the speedboat caught fire but stubbornly refused to sink.

“The Police, an AFM boat, and a helicopter watched helplessly as it eventually broke its mooring and started drifting between other boats,” Ross said.

“Despite a number of extremely close near-misses, no other boats were damaged. By the time the fire tug arrived, the boat had drifted close enough to the jetty for the fire brigade to put out the fire.”

Ross added that despite burning for over half an hour, it was still afloat.
