No one was injured this morning after an explosion, thought to have been caused by an explosive device, at an Armier boathouse. Nearby bouthouses are also being evacuated.

The boathouse, which suffered significant damage, is owned by a 38-year-old Attard resident. Other structures appear to have been damaged as well.

The alarm was raised by a year-round resident and other boathouse owners arrived to inspect their own properties. Police however asked owners not to enter their properties as a precaution.

District police, crime scene investigation unit and the AFM explosives ordinance disposal unit are on the scene.

Enemalta employees were on site to disconnect the electricity mains.

In 2013, an improvised explosive device was detonated in front of a boathouse in Armier. Two men, one of whom was the owner of the property, noticed the device and left the area. The device exploded soon after. No one was hurt in that incident.
