Car overturns in traffic collision, 77-year-old passenger dies

A 77-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident on Wednesday night at 9:55pm, when a car overturned on Zabbar Road, Fgura.

The Toyota Rav4 flipped on its side and another car, a Renault Megane, had collided into the side of the road.

The Toyota’s 79-year-old driver, a Marsaskala man, was said to have lost control and impact into the Renault, which was stationary at the time. The Renault’s driver, 43 from Naxxar, and his passenger did not suffer any injuries.

The impact led to the Toyota overturning, and leaving both motorist and passenger in the car unable to exit the vehicle.

Civil Protection and medical teams were called on the scene to extract the two victims, but the female passenger, also from Marsasjala, was certified dead on site. The motorist was taken to Mater Dei suffering from grevious shock.

Duty magistrate Aaron Bugeja is leading an inquiry.
