A driver had a lucky escape in Kirkop this afternoon when the vehicle he was driving burst into flames.
Civil Protection Department members were called out to the Kirkop tunnels shortly after 1:30pm after the car caught fire while being driven towards Kirkop.
The car was destroyed by the fire, but the driver, who was inside the car before it burst into flames, managed to escape without injury.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but foul play is being ruled out by investigators, a police spokesperson told MaltaToday.
Police officers closed off one lane of traffic along the Kirkop-bound tunnel, while CPD members are expected to clear the site.
Police investigations are ongoing.
