Car owners were not being allowed to retrieved their vehicles from a Sliema car park this afternoon after a car parked inside was gutted by fire.

Police sources said a white Peugeot 206 caught fire at around 2:30pm, but could not confirm the cause of the flames.

Images of the car show extensive damage to its interior as well as to its engine compartment.

The car was located on the first floor of the car park, near an entrance to a supermarket. Smoke filtered up to the fourth floor and could be seen coming out of the car park until shortly after the fire was put out.

Two other vehicles in the car park in Triq il-Kbira were also damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported.
