Driver hospitalised after vehicle catches fire in Hamrun

The driver of a Citroen van was hospitalised this morning after the vehicle he was driving caught fire in Hamrun

A 59-year-old man suffered grievous injuries this morning when the van he was driving caught fire in Hamrun.

Police were notified at around 8am that a Citroen Berlingo had caught fire in Manuel Magri Street, close to the Immaculate Conception parish church.

The driver of the van, a resident of Pieta’, was transferred to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance for treatment. No one else was injured.

The road was closed off to traffic while the fire was put out.
