Media academic to head Labour think-tank

University lecturer Carmen Sammut appointed chairperson of Ideat foundation.

Media academic Dr Carmen Sammut will head the Labour party's Ideat think-tank, the PL has announced.

Sammut was appointed to the post by the Labour party's national executive.

Sammut lectures at the University of Malta and is the author of several publications on media and journalism, most notably 'Media and Maltese Society'.

She recently was part of the Institute of Maltese Journalists' press ethics commission and has been active in women's rights organisations and environmental NGOs.

Sammut replaces Aaron Farrugia, who was recently appointed secretary on the compilation of the PL's electoral manifesto.

Lydia Abela was reconfirmed by the PL national executive as secretary to the national executive. Also reconfirmed were Rachel Tua as equal opportunities officer, Salvu Seychell as committee coordination officer and Joe Cordina as financial administrator.
