Enemalta orders transfers without explanations – UHM

UHM says Enemalta workers risk losing take-home pay

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has expressed concern over a number of transfers ordered at Enemalta without give workers a reason or an explanation as to where they were being transferred.

In a statement, the UHM insisted that no worker should lose or have his take-home pay deducted, “even if an agreement with other unions was reached”.

The UHM issued a directive ordering workers in Gozo not to be transferred as this would negatively impinge on their financial income. The union said these workers had been asked to leave their work keys and Enemalta tag among others, without being given an explanation as to where they would be transferred.

“It was only upon request and further insistence that the workers were given further information. This is unacceptable for the UHM. Enemalta workers have their dignity and deserve better treatment,” the UHM said.

According to the union, this was not the first time that the Enemalta management approached workers who would be transferred to a new job with lower income: “Workers employed at Enemalta’s health and safety sector were offered a job with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority with inferior conditions. The same happened to workers responsible of firefighting who were encouraged to change jobs with inferior conditions.”

The UHM said that, next work, workers employed with the generation section will be informed of a change in shift hours and this too will result in lower income.

A meeting for Enemalta workers will be held at the UHM’s headquarters on Thursday at 6.30pm.
