MCAST students respond to KSM claims in favour of spring hunting

Applied Science students at MCAST have issued a statement to express their disagreement with student council members claiming that all students were in favour of spring hunting

In a statement issued by the a group of applied science students at MCAST, it was explained that claims that students at the institution were in favour of Spring Hunting, were not the result of a consultation process.

“The claim reflects the opinion of just two of the student council members, who spoke without consulting anyone,” the statement read.

Students attending the MCAST Institute of Applied Sciencesent out the release to inform the public that articles claiming that MCAST Students support a Yes vote in the Spring Hunting Referendum, were misleading and based on false information.

“Kunsill Studenti MCAST (KSM) never discussed the holding of any ‘survey’. It is clear that some members of KSM decided to come up with this story without any consultation whatsoever neither with its own members nor with other student organizations,” they said.

The students reiterated that there had never been any survey on the issue, but merely, an internet poll which did not control who voted or how many times they could vote.

“Claiming that this supposed poll reflects the opinion of MCAST students is irresponsible, misleading and an outright lie,” they stressed.

The students claimed that many other students had contacted them expressing their disappointment at the fact that 2 KSM members had put MCAST students in a bad light by expressing opinions based on an internet poll.

The students added that they felt that spring hunting was unsustainable and went counter to all basic concepts of environmental conservation.

“We believe that, at least in spring, the countryside should be open and free for the enjoyment of everyone, including families, children and young people,” the statement reads.

“We are confident that MCAST students are informed enough to make the right choice and make Malta a better place by voting ‘No’ in the referendum,” they added.

The students added that they expected the 2 KSM members to represent students in a professional manner and to at least consult with fellow council members before issuing any statements which purports to reflect MCAST students’ opinions.
