MP administers first aid aboard transatlantic flight

Backbencher Deo Debattista was the only doctor on board a flight from New York to Munich, when a fellow passenger fell ill

Quick thinking from Labour MP Deo Debattista aboard a transatlantic flight meant ensured that it could continue on its journey, after a passenger fell ill.

Debattista was aboard flight KM2925 from New York to Munich as part of a Maltese delegation, led by Speaker Anglu Farrugia, that was returning to Malta after attending the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York.

Debattista was the only doctor onboard the flight and administered medical aid to an American traveler, avoiding the need for the flight to divert to Greenland.

Speaker Anglu Farrugia thanked Debattista for his actions throughout the flight and his continued care for the patient on arrival in Munich.
