Front Harsien ODZ wants extensive studies on Gozo tunnel viability

Front Harsien ODZ calls for comprehensive studies and impact assessments on Gozo-Malta tunnel proposal/

Front Harsien ODZ has called for comprehensive studies and impact assessments to be carried out to determine the viability of constructing a tunnel between Malta and Gozo.

“It is important that civil society engages in dialogue on such important issues,” the Front said in a statement. “We therefore believe that the tunnel proposal requires comprehensive studies and impact assessments that cover ecological, geological, economic, social and other factors before being rendered into a populist issue with lack of evidence that backs up its viability and sustainability.

"Studies should also assess carbon footprint of tunnel compared to ferry service as well as impacts on existing road network in Gozo and Malta.”

A new campaign in favour of the tunnel proposal will be launched this afternoon, and will be publicly backed by Gozitan MPs from both sides of the House – Labour MP Franco Mercieca and Nationalist MP Chris Said.
