Almost 600 citizenship applications in 2015

In 2015 alone, 578 people applied for a Maltese passport through the Citizenship by Investment Programme.

Justice minister Owen Bonnici said that a total of 54 applications were successful and awarded citizenship.

Replying to a Parliamentary question by opposition MP Paula Mifsud Bonnici, Boinnici said that 476 applicants had submitted all the necessary documents for scrutiny.

A total of 147 of them have been approved and to date 54 people were given citizenship while 102 applicants still need to submit documents or have been refused
