Police of the Mellieħa district were called to investigate a boathouse in Bajja tal-Armier yesterday evening at 22:10 after reports were filed of casualties after a robbery.

A 55-year-old man, resident of San Gwann, was found to be in critical condition after sustaining what appear to be a number of stab wounds with a sharp object. Members of the Rapid Intervention Unit were already on the scene tending to the man who had already lost a large amount of blood. The medical team also called to help take the victim to Mater Dei hospital where he was officially declared to be in critical condition.

In addition, a woman, who was bound by the same perpetrators on the scene, was also taken to hospital but only suffered from small abbrations.

Investigations are still underway but preliminary investigations indicated that there were three masked perpetrators who stole the man’s car, last seen in Aħrax tal-Mellieħa.

The station magistrate appointed several experts to assist him in a magesterial investigation. In the meantime, the department of criminal investigation and district police continue to investigate the case.
