Anthony Vella, the inquiring magistrate investigating Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder has accepted an application filed by the Institute of Maltese Journalists, for any sources that might become known over the course of the investigation, to be protected.

Investigators will be combing through the late journalist’s computer and mobile data possibly exposing sources who might have leaked information to Caruana Galizia to prosecution or retribution.

“The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM) welcomes the fact that the inquiring magistrate welcomed the IGM’s request for Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sources that might become known during the course of the investigation, both those related to stories she had written, as well as others she was still working on to be protected,” read an IGM statement.

It added that the request had been made in agreement with all the editors of local media houses, with the application being filed by lawyer Stefano Filletti.
