No Air Malta flights to Libya until mid-August

Temporary suspension of Air Malta flights to Libya to continue up until 15 August.

Air Malta will be cancelling flights to Libya up until 15 August, with indications that the airport in Tripoli will not be operational any time soon.

“Obviously we will be closely monitoring the situation and we will either reinstate flights or extend this cancellation, depending on the situation in the airport and our safety and security assessments,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

The situation remains fluid as the Libyan capital descended once again into chaos with flare-ups between the armed militias leading to attacks on Tripoli airport.

Doubts on Libya’s ability to carry out air traffic control duties have raised the possibility that operations will have to be transferred to Malta ATC.
