Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba says European Parliament members have to focus on certain sectors to be effective in their work.

“You cannot be a jack of all trades, you have to focus on a certain area,” Agius Saliba said.

He said the role of an MEP also includes that of convincing fellow MEPs, who might be coming from differing ideologies, on certain technicalities.

“That is why I tried to focus on the digital sector,” he said.

Agius Saliba was the European Parliament’s rapporteur on the universal charger policy. The policy has led to Apple to ditching the proprietary Lightning adaptor and conform to EU law requiring manufacturers to adopt a common charging connection.
