[WATCH] Meet your S&D MEP: Cyrus Engerer

MEP Cyrus Engerer sits down to speak about his work in the European Parliament

Labour MEP Cyrus Engerer believes that all his work at the European Parliament should not only be documented but also open to the public.

“I meet several people, companies, and organisations on behalf of the European Parliament. Since my first day here, I have felt the need for all my meetings to be public,” he said.

He claimed that his work was being carried out in the name of every European, but mostly in the name of the Maltese and Gozitans who elected him.

MEPs are only allowed to meet with associations and organizations registered in the European Transparency Register, something Engerer also pointed out.

“But I believe in total transparency. I wish transparency in Malta was better, and I wish transparency at the EU level was also improved. That is why, in my case, every meeting is made public.”

“If you access my website and go to the 'Nothing to Hide' section, you can see every meeting I have had, with whom, about what, who was present, and even read the minutes.”

Engerer is one of only two MEPs who must publish all minutes of every meeting they have ever attended.

This interview is sponsored by the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
