Czech Republic register easy victory over Malta

The Czech Republic have a good chance of placing in the runner-up spot in Group B after they easily defeated Malta 4-1.

The Czech Republic went ahead early in the match and continued their dominance till the end.

Malta captain, Michael Mifsud was presented with a memento and a national team shirt with the number 100 by MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo and Parliamentary Secretary Dr Stefan Buontempo.

The Czech Republic managed to take the lead just after three minutes of play. David Lafata served Tomas Hubscham outside the area and the latter’s shot was deflected by Rowan Muscat with the ball not being saved by goalkeeper Justin Haber to end up in goal.

Om the 18th minute, Malta lost a great chance to equalize when John Mintoff had a great chance in front of goal but goalkeeper Petr Cech reached the ball before Mintoff could shoot.

The Czech Republic managed to double their lead on the 33rd minute. Off a cross by Frantisek Rajtoral, David Lafata made no mistake and beat Haber with his shot.

Two minutes into the second half, Malta managed to get back into the match. Roderick Briffa served Michael Mifsud inside the area and the Malta captain easily slotted the ball past Cech.

The Czech Republic restored their two goal lead on the 51st minute. David Lafta served Vaclav Kadlec in front of goal and the latter easily beat goalkeeper Justin Haber to make the score 3-1.

On the 90th minute, the Czech Republic sealed their victory. Off a cross by Borek Dockal, Tomas Pekhart headed the ball past Haber to make the final score 4-1.
