Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have been shortlisted for this year’s PFA Player of the Year, announced by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

Suarez, who alongside Sturridge has formed a deadly strike force, is the firm favourite to win the award after his most impressive season to date. Despite missing the first five matches through suspension, Suarez has already scored 29 league goals.

His strike partner Sturridge has scored 20 goals while Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has scored 13 goals and notched up ten assists in his 29 league games.

The trio’s blistering form has propelled Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table and on the brink of their first championship honours in 24 years.

They are joined by Chelsea’s Belgian star Eden Hazard, Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, and Southampton's Adam Lallana.

Hazard has been Chelsea’s stand out performer this seasons and is the Blues’ top goalscorer with 14 goals this season, while Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure tops Manchester City’s goal chart with 18.  England international Adam Lallana makes up the list after an impressive season for Southampton which has seen him earn the plaudits of Roy Hodgson.

Gerrard has previously won the award in 2005-06, while Luis Suarez and Yaya Toure would be the first South American and African players respectively to scoop up the award.

Daniel Sturridge and Hazard are also nominated for the PFA Young Player Award along with Everton’s Ross Barkley, Southampton’s Luke Shaw, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling.

While the player of the year award is expected to be won by Suarez, the honours for this year’s young player of the year award will surely be closer.

England duo Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw have both garnered admirers for their impressive performances this season – most notably England manager Roy Hodgson who handed the two their first senior England caps.

Meanwhile, Jamaican-born England international Raheem Sterling’s seven goals and three assists will surely be noticed while Aaron Ramsey’s form will see him favourite to win the award.

Last year both awards were won by Gareth Bale in his final season for Tottenham before joining Real Madrid.

The winner will be announced at the 41st PFA awards on Sunday, April 27.
