Qormi were the better side in the early stages of the match, but Naxxar missed a good goal scoring opportunity when Emenike Mbachu failed to connect to a perfect cross by Terrence Vella.

Three minutes into the second half, Qormi managed to take the lead. Alfred Effiong served Joseph Chetcuti who then dribbled past goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi and easily placed the ball at the back of the net.

Naxxar continued to press to try to score the equaliser, but Qormi held on to collect all three points from the first match of the season.
