The Maroons had an opportunity on goal after twenty-six minutes when Ricardo Correa fired a shot that sailed wide.

Sliema hit back through Denni Rocha Dos Santos who saw his shot from a free kick going slightly over the bar.

However, John Buttigieg’s side went ahead on the 41st minute. Mark Scerri sent a cross inside the penalty area that was met by Jean Paul Farrugia who placed the ball past Mauro Boerchio.

Farrugia went close to double the score three minutes later when he received from John Mintoff and finished centimetres wide.

Despite Gżira’s efforts, Sliema went close again on the 68th minute. Denni went through on goal, but finished wide.

On the 83rd minute, Juan Corbalan of Gżira attempted a shot from distance that went wide.
