The first chance of the game was created by Gżira. Moises Avila Perez found Mamadou Salieu who saw his effort being saved by Matthew Calleja Cremona.

On the 16th minute, the Maroons had another chance on goal when Gianmarco Conti fired a shot from distance that went high.

Gżira kept pushing forward and had another chance on the 22nd minute. Ricardo Calixto sent a cross inside the penalty area towards Momodou who failed to make proper contact with the ball.

Pembroke responded a minute later when Maneski Boerche went on a good run before hitting a shot that went centimetres wide of the post.

Darren Abdilla’s side had a golden chance to go ahead on the 51st minute. Moises Avila Perez served Momodou, but the latter finished wide from close range.

On the 85th minute, Pembroke were reduced to ten men when Akuto fouled Machedo Neto and the referee showed him a straight red card.

Ricardo Calixto of Gżira was voted as the BOV player of the match.

The match was controlled by Matthew Degabriele.
