Gżira’s unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Balzan.

Balzan went ahead on the 51st minute. Alfred Effiong delivered a cross in the direction of Bojan Kaljevic who finished inside the net.

However, the Maroons equalised two minutes later. Ndubisi Okoye received a cross from Roderick Briffa and headed past Ivan Janjusevic.

Gżira ended up in ten men on the 75th minute after Souleymane Diamoutene was shown his second yellow card.

Balzan scored the winning goal on the 90th minute. Karl Pulo handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee signalled for a penalty. From the eleven metres mark, Kaljevic made no mistake.
