The Maroons made a great start to the match as they forged ahead after just ten minutes. Amadou Samb received the ball from Edison Bilbao Zarate and hit a shot that stamped off the upright. The ball bounced off Nemanja Radojevic and ended up inside the net.

Hibs equalised on the 27th minute. Following a through ball by Isaac Ntow, Tiago Adan Fonseca ran inside the penalty area and placed the ball behind Justin Haber.

However, Abdilla’s side hit back and regained their lead three minutes later. Amadou Samb was played through on the right before anticipating Andrew Hogg and placing the ball inside an empty net. This goal brought harsh protests from the Paolites. In fact, Stefano Sanderra was sent off the technical area by Trustin Farrugia Cann.

Hibernians were unlucky not to equalise again one minute into the second half. Jurgen Degabriele received a pass from Bjorn Kristensen and attempted to lob the ball behind Haber, but saw his effort hitting the post.

Gżira increased their advantage on the 66th minute. From a free-kick, Juan Corbalan delivered a cross towards Fernando Barbosa Pereira whose effort stunned Hogg.

Hibernians replied immediately and pulled one back on the 69th minute. Taylon Marcolino squared the ball for Tiago Adan Fonseca and the latter placed the ball inside the net.
