The Maroons didn’t make the best of starts as they were reduced to ten men after just four minutes. Andrew Cohen was shown a straight red card following an incident with Ferdinando Salvati.

Senglea tried to take an immediate advantage and went close on the 8th minute. Roman Tchanturia served Rene Augusto Caseres and the latter fired a shot that ended up marginally over.

Gżira hit back one minute prior to half-time. Amadou Samb’s shot forced a good save from Matthew Farrugia.

Senglea made a good start to the second half and created a promising opportunity on the 47th minute. Following a corner, Imanol Gonzalez’s header was pushed away by Justin Haber.

However, Darren Abdilla’s side forged ahead on the 50th minute. Samb went inside the penalty area and hit a stunning shot that gave Farrugia no chance.

Gżira remained in control and threatened Senglea agained on the 75th minute. Amadou Samb’s cross was met by Nikolai Muscat whose effort went off target.
