Mosta came into this match looking to extend their positive run. Mark Miller’s side secured two draws and a win during their last three encounters. These results enabled them to secure much needed points in order to make sure that they will not fall in the danger zone.

On the other hand, Senglea Athletic made a disastrous start to the season. In fact, they finished the first part of the campaign at the bottom of the table. However, they secured a convincing 4-0 win in their previous match against Qormi and climbed ahead of them.

Senglea made their intentions clear from the start and nearly opened the score after three minutes. Leighton Grech’s cross was met by Romulo Silva Santos whose close range effort was blocked by Andreas Vella.

However, Vincenzo Potenza’s men managed to forge ahead just seconds later. Augusto Caseres received the ball inside the penalty area and hit a volley that went past Vella.

Mosta failed to react as Senglea remained in control and were unlucky not to double their advantage. From a free-kick, Diego Venancio hit a powerful shot that was pushed away by Vella with the aid of the post.

Three minutes later, Santos headed marginally wide following a cross from the left flank.

Mosta finally hit back on the 22nd minute. Akeem Roach went through down the right flank and fired a shot that hit the side netting.

The post denied Senglea again a minute later. Leighton Grech’s cross shot stamped off the post. Santos attempted to take the rebound, but the referee whistled for a foul on Rafael Da Silva Morisco.

Milller was forced to make an early substitution on the 28th minute as Mohamed Aoudou suffered an injury. Zachary Brincat took his place.

On the 36th minute, Matias Garcia of Senglea drilled a shot from the edge of the penalty area that sailed off target.

Senglea lost another chance during the additional time prior to half-time. Leyton Gonzalo went past his marker down the left flank and hit a shot that ended up slightly over.

Santos doubled Senglea’s lead on the 52nd minute. Grech’s cross went into the path of the Brazilian who headed the ball home.

Mosta replied on the 59th minute. Davy Angan N’Guessan sent a strong shot that forced a good save from Matthew Farrugia.

Senglea went close to score again on the 63rd minute. Venancio’s effort from a free-kick was parried by Vella.

Garcia sealed the three points for Senglea two minutes later. Venancio drilled a low cross towards the Argentine who slotted the ball inside the net.

Senglea slowed their tempo after the goal, but remained in control. On the other hand, Mosta never threated the opposing goalkeeper.

Following this result, Senglea will surely believe that they can retain their place in the Premier League as they are now on level points with Pieta` and just two points behind Mosta.
